The Village is accepting applications for Lateral Police Officers. This position is responsible for maintaining public safety through the enforcement of State laws and local ordinances. Some duties of this role include responding to emergency calls for service, conducting crime prevention operations, and investigating criminal activity. A successful candidate will be knowledgeable of law enforcement and criminal justice principles, skilled in the application of federal, State, and local laws and ordinances, and possess excellent interpersonal skills to carry out the essential duties of the position.
Qualifications for Lateral Entry Applicants:
● Must have been awarded a certificate attesting to the applicant’s successful completion of the Minimum Standards Basic Law Enforcement Training Course, as provided in the Illinois Police Training Act.
● Must be currently serving as a sworn law enforcement on a full-time basis in the State of Illinois for a municipal, county, university, or State law enforcement agency.
● Must be currently employed in good standing with his/her respective law enforcement agency for a minimum of two (2) years.
● Citizen of the United States with a valid driver’s license at the time of hire.
● Successfully complete at least sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited college or university.
● Have corrected far vision to 20/40 or better and corrected near vision to 20/20, possess normal peripheral vision and the ability to distinguish colors.
● Meet mental, medical, physical, and psychological standards established by the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners and be able to successfully complete such screening examinations.
● Be of good moral character, of temper habits, of sound health, and must be physically able to perform the essential job duties of the position. ● A certified copy of a birth certificate;
● A certified copy of a high school diploma or G.E.D. and transcript of grades from an accredited college or university;

Salary and Benefits: $81,825 - $109,273, dependent on qualifications. The pay step structure maxes at $122,592 and increases annually. A bonus becomes available after seven (7) years of service, based on performance. The Village provides an excellent benefits package, including health, dental, vision, and life insurance.
