We are looking for a dynamic, customer-obsessed, and innovative Designer specializing in Footwear and Non-Apparel products to join our Amazon Private Brands team.
In this role, you will design and develop products for Amazon's core brands, focusing on footwear alongside handbags and accessories. The ideal candidate will have a strong design background and a passion for premium and contemporary design details. They will be technical and have a history of working directly with vendors and factories. Proficiency in digital design tools is necessary, along with a readiness to adopt new technologies and data inputs to accelerate and improve development without compromising quality.
Successful candidates will demonstrate a proven ability to create cohesive, on-brand products across multiple categories with exceptional attention to detail. This hands-on role requires high judgment, executing against brand tenants, and proactive ownership. We value collaboration and creative excellence within our global team. The ideal candidate will possess strong partnering skills and have excellent communication abilities. This role will work cross-functionally with Business Managers, Product Developers, and Supply Chain partners to ensure products meet aesthetic, quality, and cost standards while exceeding customer expectations.
Key job responsibilities
Requirements:
- Work samples online or in PDF format, including creative and technical specifications
- On-site attendance in the Santa Monica, CA office five days/week
- Occasional domestic and international travel
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design and develop categories including women's, men's, and kid's footwear, handbags, and non-apparel from concept to pre-production approval
- Identify opportunities to integrate emerging trends and innovations into product solutions
- Deliver compelling presentations and effectively communicate with internal customers and stakeholders
- Collaborate closely with creative leads and cross-functional partners, including Product Developers, Business Managers, Sourcing, and Project Management teams, to ensure work is delivered on time and of the highest quality
- Proactively incorporate emerging technologies and data inputs to evolve and refine the product creation process
- Establish mechanisms and conduct audits to maintain consistent brand standards across all product categories
- Drive process improvements, business scalability, and seek opportunities to enhance division/brand impact
- Elevate standards for design, product quality, and customer satisfaction
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Industrial Design, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in a design role, with required footwear expertise
- Strong proficiency in design and presentation tools (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop)
- Fluency in technical design drawing, including hardware development
- Detailed, hands-on experience with prototype commenting, virtual and in-person
- Intuitive understanding of production cycle timelines and development calendars
- Organized with the ability to prioritize multiple projects
- Proactive problem-solving skills
- Fluency in Retail Math and demonstrated business acumen
Preferred Qualifications:
- Online retail experience
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to distill, synthesize, and draw conclusions using large amounts of data
- Experience working in a digitally driven, globally decentralized environment utilizing virtual communication tools
- Exposure to 3D modeling and 3D prototyping
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of design experience
- Have an available online portfolio
- Experience in Adobe Creative Suit applications, with high proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Acrobat using macOS

- A portfolio inclusive of casual and lifestyle footwear.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $108,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
